“She is in love with him. And throughout this season I’m looking for moments for that to shine. I’ve also looked for private moments, as an actor, where Castle might not be looking but she can at least show her feelings” - Stana Katic
I love how serious he is when he asks her. That’s always been something she’s wondered about him—can he be serious when he needs to be, when she needs him to be? But of course we all know that he’s never more serious than when it comes to how much he loves her. There’s no joking, no smirk—just the earnest sincerity of a man who knows what he wants and desperately needs her to know how serious he is about this, about her, about them. Richard Castle isn’t scared of much, but he’s terrified of losing her—not to a new job or a new city, but to her own fears an insecurities about him. So he puts it all on the line, he takes the next leap forward and hopes to God she’s going to follow him. Because he’s ready—they’re ready. They’ve been friends for five years, learning everything there is to know about one another, breaking down walls and facing down death and falling in love. “Always” has a new meaning now, but that promise of forever has been there for so long between them—and that’s why this proposal felt so earned, so real, and so right.
^ a thousand times this!
So interesting to read the different opinions on this scene & the proposal.
I love the parallels. In ‘Always’, Kate gives herself to him - ‘I just want you’ - she wants him above anything else. ‘Watershed’ is the closing parenthesis to that scene; Castle gives himself to her in return - ‘whatever you decide - he just wants her.
Andrew Marlowe and the Castle writers, getting foreshadowing right since 2009: “Think of foreshadowing as setup. The best foreshadowing is subtle and is woven into the story; often in multiple ways. In this fashion, foreshadowing helps build tension and gives resonance and power to the story.”
DAMN YOU MARLOWE! DAMN YOU!
Andrew W. Marlowe is a freaking genius. Geeeenius. Seriously. I’ve never seen a show that so intricately (yet subtly) loops back to previous episodes. It’s such a treat to watch and see what comes next!!
